…Vow to Clamp Down on Vehicles Without Plate Numbers

As preparations intensify for the November 8, 2025, Anambra governorship election, the Anambra State Police Command has issued a stern warning against the indiscriminate use of vehicles without plate numbers or with covered registration plates across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, minps, PhD, in a statement released on Thursday, cautioned that the Command would no longer tolerate such violations, describing them as a serious security threat capable of undermining efforts to maintain peace and order during the election period.

“The use of vehicles without plate numbers or with covered plates poses a grave security risk. Criminals often exploit such vehicles to commit crimes, evade arrest, or destabilize public peace,” the Commissioner warned. “We will not hesitate to impound these vehicles and prosecute offenders in accordance with the law.”

CP Orutugu emphasized that the Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, was stepping up measures to ensure a safe, credible, and violence-free election across all local government areas of the state.

He directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and Tactical Commanders to intensify stop-and-search operations, high-visibility patrols, and strict enforcement of the directive against unregistered or improperly tagged vehicles.

“Our officers have been instructed to remain vigilant and uncompromising in enforcing this order. Any vehicle found violating these guidelines will be promptly impounded,” he stated.

The Police Command also appealed to residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies, obey traffic and security regulations, and report any suspicious movement or individuals within their vicinity.

“Security is a collective responsibility. Ndi Anambra are urged to assist the Police by promptly reporting suspicious persons or activities through the Command’s emergency numbers — 112 or 07039194332,” the statement added.

The warning comes as part of heightened security measures aimed at preventing criminal infiltration and ensuring public confidence as the state heads to the polls.
