A new electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing company, Otoend Ltd, has officially launched operations in Enugu State, setting out to establish the South-East as Africa’s premier Green Technology Hub.

Otoend Ltd, a subsidiary of Waste Logic Ltd, unveiled its EV showroom and assembly plant in Enugu with a clear mission to champion local content, sustainable innovation, and industrial self-reliance. The company’s entry into the market is already attracting strong government attention, following a recent high-level inspection visit by officials from the Ministry of Finance and the Nigeria Customs Service—a move widely seen as a validation of the startup’s bold initiative.

Announcing the launch, the company’s Executive Director, Tobechi Ogbodo in a statement made available to newsmen, emphasized that Otoend’s mission goes beyond vehicle production.

“Our mission is rooted in local content and self-reliance. By championing homegrown manufacturing, we are not just eliminating the need for imports; we are building a resilient, independent economy. Our ultimate ambition is to position Enugu, and the entire South East, as the definitive Green Hub of Africa,” he said.

The company’s flagship product, a line of electric cargo tricycles, is designed specifically to meet the logistics and mobility needs of Nigerian businesses and small enterprises. With operations starting at a fully functional assembly line in Enugu, Otoend aims to reduce fuel dependency, lower emissions, and tackle rising transportation costs affecting local industries.

According to the management, the company’s approach aligns with national and regional goals for sustainable economic growth, innovation, and industrial diversification. By focusing on local assembly, the initiative directly contributes to job creation, technology transfer, and green energy adoption—key pillars of Nigeria’s climate and industrial development agenda.
