President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has transmitted the names of three ambassadorial nominees to the Senate, ending a long wait for diplomatic appointments since he assumed office in 2023.

The announcement was made by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, during Wednesday’s plenary, which was broadcast live on the National Assembly’s YouTube channel.

The nominees include Kayode Are (Ogun State), Aminu Dalhatu (Jigawa State) and Ayodele Oke (Oyo state).

After reading out the President’s letter, Akpabio noted, “The list contains three names for now. I am sure others will follow.”

The move comes amid sustained public criticism over the President’s delay in appointing ambassadors, a situation that had left several Nigerian foreign missions without substantive leadership for over a year.

The Senate is expected to begin the screening process in the coming days.
