Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Uchenna Joseph Okolo, has lauded the sweeping reforms of Peter Ndubuisi Mbah in the education and healthcare sectors, following the flag-off of a 200-bed students’ hostel at the College of Nursing Sciences, Awgu.
Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony held on April 9, 2026, Okolo described the governor’s interventions as bold and transformative, noting that communities at the grassroots are already feeling the impact across critical sectors.
“We owe him a lot from the grassroots and must ensure continuity. Awgu Local Government is ready,” Okolo declared.
The Awgu chairman emphasized that the hostel project represents more than just infrastructure, stressing that it reflects a deliberate effort by the state government to strengthen healthcare training and improve learning conditions for students.
Representing the governor at the event, Special Adviser on Health, Yomi Jaye, performed the official groundbreaking and described Mbah as a “do-and-talk leader,” committed to delivering practical results.
He highlighted the upgrade of the institution from a School of Midwifery to a full-fledged college, stating, “This institution has evolved from being underestimated to becoming unstoppable.”
Jaye added that the 200-bed hostel would provide a conducive and modern living environment, while urging contractors and the Ministry of Works to ensure quality execution and timely completion.

Also speaking, the Provost, Peace Ani, expressed gratitude to the state government for addressing the institution’s accommodation challenges.
“Today, we are delighted that one of our major challenges—student accommodation—is being decisively addressed,” she said.
The ceremony attracted government officials, traditional rulers, clergy, staff, and students, and featured vibrant cultural performances.

The hostel project is expected to significantly reduce accommodation pressure and further position the college as a centre for quality healthcare training, aligning with the broader development vision championed by the Mbah administration.
