Bandits launched a deadly pre-dawn attack on worshippers observing the Subh prayer in Kiba Ruwa, a community in Sabon-Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, on Saturday.
Local sources who spoke with Egbe Mekun Parrots said the armed assailants invaded the mosque at first light and opened fire on the congregants.
According to the eyewitness accounts, two people — including the imam leading the prayer — were killed, while several worshippers were abducted during the attack. The exact number of those taken remains unclear.
Security operatives were reportedly alerted shortly after the incident, but residents say fear has gripped the community as search and rescue efforts begin.
The attack adds to the growing concerns over escalating insecurity in parts of the North-West.
