The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has confirmed a pipeline explosion that sent panic across several Delta communities on Thursday evening.
In a statement signed by Andy Odeh, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd., the company said the incident occurred at about 5:50 p.m. on December 10, 2025, near Tebijor, Okpele, and Ikpopo communities in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Delta State.
Odeh disclosed that early findings showed “a pressure drop consistent with a loss of containment” on a pipeline operated by the NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC).
According to him, “The cause of the explosion is still unknown but will be confirmed after a detailed investigation has been concluded.”
He stressed that the safety of residents remains the company’s top priority.
“Our priority at this time is the safety of nearby communities and the protection of the environment,” he said.
NNPC Ltd. has activated emergency response procedures and is working with relevant authorities and community leaders to manage the situation and mitigate the impact.
Odeh reaffirmed the company’s commitment to safety and environmental responsibility, noting that more information will be released after ongoing assessments are completed.
“Further updates will be provided as more confirmed information becomes available,” he assured.
