Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has passed a vote of confidence on its President General, Senator Azuta Mbata, following the successful conclusion of its last Annual General Meeting (AGM), held on Saturday, December 20, 2025, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
According to a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Ezechi Chukwu, Ph.D., the AGM took place at Heloconia Hotels, where members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) reviewed the activities of the organisation over the past year and deliberated on key issues affecting the Igbo nation.
Addressing the meeting, Senator Mbata commended members of the NEC for what he described as their “resilience, dedication and unwavering service to the Igbo nation” within the last one year. He also informed the NEC of an upcoming Imeobi meeting scheduled for Tuesday, December 23, 2025, in Enugu.
According to him, the Imeobi meeting will consider the reviewed draft of the amended Ohanaeze Ndigbo Constitution, as well as a compendium documenting the achievements of the present NEC in its first year in office.
In response, members of the NEC showered encomiums on the President General, praising his leadership style, inclusivity, benevolence, patriotism and what they described as his “self-evident selfless service” to the Igbo nation.
On the strength of the endorsements, the National Treasurer, Dr. Peter Aneke, moved a vote of confidence on Senator Mbata on behalf of the entire NEC. The motion was seconded by the Rivers State President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Mr. Livingstone Wechie, and unanimously adopted.
Following the end-of-year meeting, the NEC paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
Speaking on behalf of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Senator Mbata expressed appreciation to the governor for granting the audience and commended him for maintaining a cordial relationship with Ndigbo in Rivers State, as well as for his inclusive leadership across ethnic lines.
Governor Fubara, in his response, thanked the Ohanaeze delegation for the visit and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering unity, peace and effective service delivery for the benefit of all residents of Rivers State, irrespective of ethnic or cultural background.
The visit was attended by prominent Rivers State leaders and stakeholders. Senator Mbata was accompanied by members of the Ohanaeze NEC and Expanded Executive Council, including the Deputy President General, Prince Okey Nwadinobi; the Secretary General, H.E. Emeka Sibeudu; the Vice President General (Delta), Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Olejeme, among others.
