The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Ebonyi State has arrested 157 suspected drug offenders and seized a total of 134.483 kilograms of illicit drugs across the state within a three-month period.

The Ebonyi State Commander of the NDLEA, Mr. Jude Ahamefule, disclosed this on Monday in Abakaliki while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), noting that the arrests and seizures were recorded between October and December 2025.

According to Ahamefule, the suspects comprised “123 males and 34 females, out of which six were convicted” during the period under review.

He said the seized substances included cannabis sativa, heroin, methamphetamine, tramadol, diazepam, and other psychotropic substances.

Breaking down the figures, the commander listed the seizures as cannabis sativa weighing 106.978kg; 2,619 capsules of tramadol (100mg); 1.407kg of methamphetamine, equivalent to 303 pinches; 0.0589kg of diazepam, amounting to 700 tablets; and 480ml of phenobarbitone syrup, among other illicit drugs.

“We rehabilitated and discharged four clients, and admitted six within the period under review,” Ahamefule said.

“Currently, a total of 12 clients are receiving rehabilitation in our facility.

“Forty-four suspects were referred to the counselling unit of the command in the period under review,” he added.

Ahamefule reaffirmed the command’s unwavering commitment to the fight against drug abuse and trafficking in Ebonyi State, warning those involved in the illicit trade to desist.

He urged residents of the state and Nigerians at large to shun drug-related activities, stressing that the agency would continue to intensify enforcement, rehabilitation, and public sensitisation efforts.

The NDLEA is a federal law enforcement agency mandated to eliminate the cultivation, processing, manufacture, sale, exportation, and trafficking of hard drugs in Nigeria.
