Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Nkanu Nnamdi, one of the twin sons of globally acclaimed writer and cultural icon, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, describing the tragedy as a painful loss to the Adichie family, the Igbo nation, and admirers of her work across the world.

In a condolence message issued on Monday and signed by the National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Dr. Ezechi Chukwu, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation said it received the news of the young boy’s death with “deep shock and sorrow,” noting that the tragedy has cast a pall over Igbo land and the global literary community that celebrates Adichie’s outstanding contributions to literature, culture, and the projection of Igbo identity and values.

Dr. Ezechi said the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Senator Azuta Mbata, conveyed the organisation’s heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

“On behalf of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide and the entire Igbo nation, I extend our heartfelt condolences to our dear daughter, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, on the devastating loss of her beloved son, Nkanu Nnamdi,” Mbata said.

“This is a sorrow that words cannot adequately console. We pray that God Almighty grants her, her family, and loved ones the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss, and that the gentle soul of the departed child rests in perfect peace.”

Ohanaeze reaffirmed its solidarity with Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie during what it described as a moment of “intense grief,” assuring her of the prayers, love, and unwavering support of the entire Igbo nation at home and in the diaspora.

The organisation also prayed for the eternal repose of Nkanu Nnamdi, asking that divine light shine perpetually upon his soul.
