Manchester United claimed a commanding 2–0 victory over Manchester City at Old Trafford on Saturday, giving interim manager Michael Carrick a winning start and dealing a major blow to their rivals’ Premier League title ambitions.

Second-half goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu proved decisive in a fiercely contested Manchester derby, as United climbed to fourth place on the league table with an assured display.

Mbeumo broke the deadlock shortly after the restart, finishing confidently to ignite celebrations among the home supporters, before Dorgu struck again to seal the result and put the contest beyond City’s reach.

The defeat leaves City six points behind league leaders Arsenal, significantly denting their title push, while United’s victory signals a resurgence under Carrick at a crucial stage of the season.

Carrick, who took charge on an interim basis, will draw encouragement from his side’s disciplined organisation and clinical attacking edge against one of the Premier League’s strongest teams.
