Leaders of Enugu West Senatorial District have announced plans to formally endorse Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for a second term, citing his performance and developmental strides across the state.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, Co-Chairman of the Central Planning Committee and Commissioner for Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Barr. Charles Egumgbe, said the endorsement rally, themed “Enugu West Rally for Peter Mbah 2027,” will hold on April 18, 2026, at Awgu Local Government Headquarters.
Egumgbe said the decision reflects a growing tradition in the state where performing governors are encouraged by the people to seek a second tenure.
“On behalf of my co-chairman, our own Distinguished Senator Ben-Collins Ndu, we are here to brief you on our plans. This Saturday, at Awgu Local Government Headquarters, all the five local governments in Enugu West will gather to endorse our dear cerebral governor for a second tenure,” he said.
He emphasized that the rally would cut across political affiliations, describing it as a collective decision by the people of Enugu West.
“When we talk about Enugu West, it is not about APC or PDP. It means all indigenes and personalities of Enugu West extraction will be there to endorse him,” Egumgbe added.
Highlighting the governor’s performance, Egumgbe described Mbah as a visionary leader with clear development plans across multiple sectors.
“For the first time, we have seen a governor who has programmes and plans. He is not an accidental governor. He is very cerebral. If you watch him, you can see the depth of knowledge and planning in every project,” he said.
According to him, the administration has made visible impact in infrastructure, education, healthcare, transportation, and the economy within a short period.
“Across all indices of development—be it infrastructure, education, health, transportation or economics—you can see that this governor has touched every area, and there are visible developments in every community,” he stated.
Egumgbe also pointed to innovations such as the state’s aviation initiative, noting that it would ease travel and boost economic activities.
“Today, you have an aircraft domiciled in Enugu. By December, our people will be jetting out to London, South Africa, and America directly, without going through Lagos or Abuja. This is a man who is planning for tomorrow, beginning from today,” he said.
On education, he stressed that the administration’s focus goes beyond infrastructure to long-term outcomes.
“The structure is not the issue, but the intended result. In the next few years, our children can compete effectively with those from developed countries. That is the governor’s vision,” Egumgbe noted.
He further argued that Mbah is “eminently qualified” for a second term, especially given the state’s zoning arrangement, which he said supports continuity before power rotation.
“We are saying, Your Excellency, go ahead, we are supporting you. We have also decided to procure his nomination ticket for a second tenure. That is the decision of the people of Enugu West,” he declared.
In his remarks, co-chairman of the committee, Ben-Collins Ndu, said the governor has exceeded expectations, justifying the call for a second term.
“Our governor has even gone beyond expectation. Because he is a man of history, that is why we are saying he deserves a second tenure,” Ndu said.

He stressed the need for continuity to consolidate ongoing projects and reforms.
“We really need the completion of the good things the government is doing,” he added.
The former Enugu West senator also pledged total support for the governor, describing him as a “performing leader.”
“I am going to give 100 percent support to His Excellency, the performing governor. We will ensure things continue to improve,” he said.
The planned rally is expected to draw stakeholders from across Enugu West, signalling early political momentum ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
