MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited has attributed the prolonged power outage affecting communities in Oji River, Achi, and surrounding areas to a technical fault at a transmission facility.

In a statement issued on April 16, 2026, and signed by MainPower Head of Communications, Emeka Ezeh, the company disclosed that the disruption was caused by a breaker fault at the Oji River Transmission Station operated by the Transmission Company of Nigeria.

According to the statement, the fault has led to a loss of supply on the Achi 33kV feeder, significantly disrupting electricity distribution across multiple communities.

“This development has resulted in a loss of supply to the Achi 33kV feeder, thereby affecting electricity distribution to several communities and villages served by the feeder,” Ezeh said.

The affected areas include Ahani, Amaetiti, Ofia N’Oji, Obodoukwu, Achi Girls, Achi Joint, Ekegbo, Obodo Ijiji, Umueze, Umuoka South, Mmaku, Awa, Mgbidi, Ogugu, and Eziama Afam, among others.

Other impacted locations listed by the company are Abor, Ihe, Ugwuegbo, Nkwo Inyi, Enugu Inyi, Nweke Inyi, Isiama Olaw, Akpugoeze communities, and several adjoining settlements across the local government area.

MEDL noted that engineers from TCN are currently working to replace the faulty breaker and restore normal power supply.

“The TCN team is currently working assiduously to replace the faulty equipment. MEDL is collaborating closely with TCN to ensure that power supply is restored as quickly as possible,” the statement added.

The company apologised to customers for the inconvenience and appealed for patience.

“We sincerely regret the inconvenience this situation has caused our valued customers and appreciate your patience and understanding. Be assured that supply will be restored immediately upon completion of the repair works,” Ezeh stated.

MEDL reaffirmed its commitment to improving electricity service delivery across its coverage areas.
