A Nigerian oil and gas professional, Dr. Nick Ogbodo, has expressed confidence that the appointment of the new Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, will help restore public trust in the Nigeria Police Force and strengthen national security.

Ogbodo made this known in a statement personally signed after a visit to the police chief, where he congratulated Disu on his appointment as the 23rd indigenous Inspector-General of Police and praised President Bola Tinubu for what he described as a wise leadership decision.

Disu was sworn in as the substantive Inspector-General of Police by President Tinubu on March 4, 2026, during a ceremony held at the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja.

In the statement, Ogbodo said he and his family were extending their “warmest congratulations” to the new police boss, while also appreciating the President for entrusting him with the responsibility.

“Please accept on behalf of myself and family our warmest congratulations on your appointment as the 23rd indigenous Inspector-General of Police. We also extend our profound appreciation to Mr. President, His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the wisdom and foresight shown in entrusting this critical national assignment to a man of your caliber,” he said.

He described Disu’s professional journey as one marked by discipline, courage, operational excellence and dedication to duty, noting that his record has earned him respect both within the force and among Nigerians.

“Your professional track-record – defined by discipline, operational excellence, courage under pressure, and an unblemished commitment to duty – has earned you respect both within the Nigeria Police Force and among the citizens you have served,” Ogbodo stated.

He further highlighted Disu’s experience from his years leading the Police Intelligence Response Team, serving as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory, as well as his role as Assistant Inspector-General of Police at the FCID Annex in Lagos.

“From your years commanding the Police Intelligence Response Team to your leadership as Commissioner of Police Rivers State and FCT-Abuja Commands, to Assistant Inspector General of Police, (FCID Annex Lagos), you have consistently demonstrated competence, integrity, and results,” he added.

According to Ogbodo, Nigeria’s current security realities require a leader with proven experience and strong leadership capacity, qualities he believes Disu possesses.

“At this time when our nation faces complex security challenges, your wealth of experience and proven leadership are precisely what the country needs,” he said.

He also prayed for divine wisdom, protection and strength for the IGP as he takes on what he described as the enormous responsibility of securing lives and property across the country.

Ogbodo expressed hope that Disu’s tenure would improve professionalism within the force and deliver peace and security to Nigerians.

“May your tenure restore public trust, deepen professionalism in the force, and bring renewed safety, security, and peace to Nigeria.

“Congratulations once again, Sir. The nation is counting on you, and we are confident you will deliver,” he said.

Disu joined the Nigeria Police Force on May 18, 1992, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police.
