The Nigeria Police Force has commenced disciplinary proceedings against 167 senior officers over alleged breaches of professional conduct and other related offences, as part of efforts to strengthen accountability and professionalism within the Force.

The development was announced in a statement dated April 21, 2026, by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, who said the affected officers are currently appearing before the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

According to the statement, the ongoing exercise is aimed at reviewing pending disciplinary matters involving senior officers and ensuring strict compliance with the ethical standards expected of police personnel.

“The Nigeria Police Force has commenced the sitting of the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC) to review pending disciplinary matters involving one hundred and sixty-seven (167) senior police officers over alleged breaches of professional conduct and other related offences,” the statement read.

It added that the exercise forms part of ongoing institutional efforts to strengthen internal accountability, enforce discipline, and uphold professional standards across the Force.

The Force Disciplinary Committee, according to the statement, serves as a major internal mechanism for reviewing and determining disciplinary cases involving senior officers from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police and above.

“The process ensures a thorough, transparent, and fair examination of all matters in accordance with extant laws and regulations, with appropriate recommendations to the Police Service Commission,” Placid stated.

Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to discipline, integrity, and professionalism, stressing that no officer found culpable of misconduct would be protected from due process.

“The IGP reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to discipline, integrity, and professionalism, noting that no officer found culpable of misconduct will be shielded from due process,” the statement added.

The police chief also emphasized that the disciplinary proceedings are part of broader institutional reforms designed to strengthen internal control systems, promote ethical conduct, and improve public trust in the Force.

“The ongoing disciplinary proceedings form part of broader institutional reforms aimed at strengthening internal control mechanisms, promoting ethical conduct, and enhancing public confidence in the Force,” the statement noted.

The Nigeria Police Force further reiterated its resolve to uphold the highest standards of accountability and service delivery, insisting that all officers must conduct themselves in line with the core values of the profession.
