Security operatives have foiled a kidnap attempt at the Army Post Service Housing Estate in Kurudu, Abuja, killing one suspected member of a seven-man gang during a gun battle.

The incident occurred around 8:47 p.m. on Thursday in the Abuja Municipal Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, when the armed group reportedly stormed the estate and began shooting sporadically after gaining entry.

Their actions quickly drew the attention of military personnel stationed at the estate’s entrance, who responded alongside officers from the police division in Kurudu.

A resident, Michael Moses, who lives near the estate, said the swift intervention by security forces led to an exchange of gunfire.

“The military and operatives of the Kurudu police division engaged the kidnappers in a shootout, which led to the death of one of them,” he said.

According to him, the operation successfully prevented the abduction of a business tycoon residing within the estate.

He added that the body of the deceased suspect was later evacuated by the police.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, SP Adeh Josephine, said investigations are ongoing.

“The police is investigating the incident,” she stated in a text message response.
