Fresh details have emerged on the political future of Peter Gregory Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, with both leaders set to formally join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) on Sunday.

The move, which effectively confirms their exit from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), is expected to reshape the opposition landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to an invitation circulated to journalists via the NDC’s official media platform, the formal declaration will take place by 3:00 p.m. in Abuja.

The two political heavyweights are to be received by the party’s National Leader and former Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, alongside the NDC National Chairman, Moses Cleopas, and members of the party’s National Working Committee.

Party insiders described the development as a major boost for the NDC, signalling what they termed “a growing wave of confidence” in the party across the country.

Although both Obi and Kwankwaso had, in recent days, downplayed reports of imminent defection, Sunday’s planned declaration is set to confirm months of behind-the-scenes negotiations and strategic consultations.

The anticipated move is also widely seen as a critical step toward positioning both leaders for the 2027 presidential race under a new political platform, potentially setting the stage for a major realignment within Nigeria’s opposition bloc.
