The Enugu State chapter of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) has welcomed a wave of new entrants into its fold, including members of the Obidient Movement and supporters of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, declaring that the growing alliance positions the party for electoral victory in the state.

The party, led by its state chairman, Dr. Johnpaul Anih, said the influx of supporters—popularly described as the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement—signals a shift in Enugu’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement jointly signed by the State Secretary, Dr. Sebastine Chukwuebuka Okafor, and the Publicity Secretary, Mr. Emmanuel Ugwueze, and released in Enugu on Tuesday, the party described the development as a major boost to its electoral strength.

“The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Enugu State Chapter, warmly welcomes all new members into the party. Your decision to identify with this movement at this critical time reflects a shared desire for purposeful leadership, inclusive governance, and people-oriented policies,” the statement read.

The party said the increasing number of defectors underscores a growing demand for change among residents.

“The increasing influx of credible individuals and grassroots supporters into our party is a clear indication that Ndi Enugu are ready for a new direction,” it added.

NDC highlighted the entry of notable political figures, including Gil Nnaji, Chief Chinyeaka Ohaa, Princess Adaogbu, and Chief John Nwokeabia, describing them as key to strengthening the party’s structure and electoral chances.

“With respected leaders such as Sen. Gil Nnaji, Chief Chinyeaka Ohaa, Princess Adaogbu, and Chief John Nwokeabia joining our fold, the NDC is further strengthened with the capacity to win elections and emerge as a formidable political force in Enugu State,” the statement said.

The party also acknowledged the support of both the Obidient and Kwankwaso movements, noting that their alignment reflects a shared vision for better governance.

“We also appreciate the support and alignment of the Obidient Movement, the Kwankwaso Movement, and the emerging Obi-Kwankwaso Movement, whose members share our vision for a better Enugu,” it stated.

Reaffirming its policy direction, the party said it is committed to delivering accountable leadership and sustainable development across key sectors.

“Our party remains committed to building a platform that prioritizes accountability, transparency, and sustainable development… We are determined to provide leadership that listens, engages, and delivers measurable progress in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and youth empowerment,” the statement added.

The NDC leadership also called on residents of the state to join the party as political activities intensify.

“We call on all well-meaning citizens, professionals, artisans, youths, and women groups to seize this opportunity and join us in the collective effort to reposition Enugu State for greater prosperity. Together, we can build a state that works for everyone.

“The time for positive change is now, and the NDC stands ready to lead that change with unity and purpose.”
