The Anambra State Police Command has concluded investigations into a series of disturbing sexual and child abuse cases and is set to arraign five suspects before a Special Court in Awka on Wednesday.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, the cases include allegations of defilement, incest, and severe physical abuse involving minors across different parts of the state.
According to the police, one of the suspects is accused of engaging in a prolonged sexual relationship with his daughter.
“The Operatives… have concluded investigations into several serious cases of sexual and child abuse-related offences, including that of a father who has been having an affair with his daughter… The five suspects will be arraigned today 6th May 2026 before the Special Court sitting in Awka,” the statement said.
The Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) reportedly handled multiple cases transferred from various divisions.
In one instance, a 26-year-old security guard, Chukwuemeka Chidiebere, is accused of attacking a 16-year-old girl and assaulting her in an uncompleted building within an estate in Ogbunike.
“Preliminary investigation reveals that the suspect… allegedly attacked the victim… dragged her into an uncompleted building… where he forcefully had unlawful carnal knowledge of her,” the police stated, noting that the suspect has made a confessional statement.
In a separate case, Uchenna Muojama, 36, was alleged to have lured an 11-year-old girl into his barbing salon in Neni, where he assaulted her. Police said a medical report has been obtained to support prosecution.
Another suspect, Chukwudi Nwayata, 52, is accused of taking advantage of the mental condition of an 11-year-old girl in Awka and assaulting her after luring her to his residence.
The police also disclosed a case of incest involving Rapuruchukwu Ezenandu, 46, who allegedly maintained a sexual relationship with his daughter over a period of years.
“The case came to light after the victim tested HIV positive during a hospital visit. The suspect has made a confessional statement,” the statement added.
In a separate incident, a female suspect, Eucharia Ezenwanne, is accused of subjecting two children, aged six and four, to severe physical abuse using a wire. She claimed the children were adopted from a motherless babies’ home in Onitsha.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, condemned the incidents in strong terms.
He described the offences as “heinous and unacceptable,” reiterating the command’s commitment to protecting vulnerable persons.
