The Enugu State chapter of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), led by Johnpaul Anih, has welcomed delegates, party leaders, stakeholders and observers arriving for the party’s National Convention, describing the gathering as a major turning point for the opposition party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued on Friday, Dr. Anih said the convention would provide the platform for the party to consolidate its structures nationwide and deepen its push for national relevance.

According to him, the convention comes at a critical time when Nigerians are seeking credible leadership and alternative political direction.

“We are delighted to welcome delegates and leaders from across the federation to this important national convention,” Anih stated.

“This convention represents another opportunity for members of our great party to deliberate on the future of Nigeria and the role the NDC will play in providing credible leadership for the country,” he added.

The Enugu NDC chairman described the gathering as a defining moment in the party’s journey, stressing that the convention would further strengthen internal democracy, unity and grassroots mobilization across the country.

He maintained that the increasing participation of party faithful from different states reflected the growing acceptance and expansion of the NDC as a people-driven political movement.

Dr. Anih also urged delegates and party supporters to conduct themselves peacefully throughout the convention and uphold the ideals of unity, discipline and brotherhood.

He called on members to remain committed to building what he described as a stronger and more formidable political platform capable of addressing the aspirations of Nigerians.

“The Enugu State chapter remains committed to the ideals of internal democracy, inclusiveness, unity and grassroots mobilization,” he said.

The party leadership further expressed optimism that the outcome of the convention would usher in a new era of growth, stability and strategic direction for the NDC at both national and state levels.

Supporters and stakeholders of the party who spoke ahead of the convention described the gathering as timely and significant, noting that it would help consolidate the gains already recorded by the party across different parts of the country amid ongoing political realignments ahead of 2027.
