Deji Adeyanju

Human rights lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju has claimed that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) can only secure victory in the North through rigging, citing what he described as growing dissatisfaction among voters in the region ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Adeyanju made the remark in a post on X after returning from a visit to Sokoto State, where he said public sentiment appeared unfavourable to the ruling party despite the popularity of the state governor.

“I just returned from Sokoto and what I saw, it’s only by rigging APC can win in presidential there,” Adeyanju wrote.

“The Sokoto governor will win second term but you see presidential election, it’s only by rigging they can win,” he added.

His comments came in response to another X user, Yusuf Idris, who alleged that support for the APC was rapidly declining across Northern Nigeria.

“It will be difficult to come out and campaign for the APC in the north. The masses are just patiently waiting for the time,” Idris wrote.

“Most of the APC billboards in the north are being destroyed. Hmmm people will resist APC rigging,” he added.

The remarks have since generated reactions on social media, with supporters and critics of the ruling party debating the political mood in the North and the prospects of the APC ahead of the next general election.
