President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed retired Major General Adeyinka A. Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security, in a move aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s internal security architecture and intelligence coordination.

The appointment was confirmed in a circular issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and signed by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana.

According to the statement, the appointment reflects the Tinubu administration’s determination to deepen intelligence-driven security operations, improve inter-agency collaboration and tackle emerging security threats across the country.

The Presidency described Fadewa as “a highly decorated retired General with over three decades of distinguished military and intelligence service spanning national security strategy, intelligence fusion, counter-terrorism operations, and international security diplomacy.”

The statement added that his career demonstrated “a rare blend of operational excellence, strategic foresight, and institutional leadership in safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity and national interests.”

Fadewa previously served as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser at the Office of the National Security Adviser between 2015 and 2021.

During that period, he reportedly played a central role in the development of Nigeria’s modern intelligence coordination system, including the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre at the ONSA.

The Presidency said the centre created a unified intelligence platform bringing together the Defence Intelligence Agency, National Intelligence Agency, Department of State Services, the Nigeria Police Force and the Armed Forces to strengthen national threat assessment and coordinated response operations.

Following his retirement from military service, Fadewa served as a Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja, where he focused on national security reform, policing and civil-security cooperation.

He is also credited with authoring the monograph, “Policing and National Security in Nigeria,” which the government described as offering practical frameworks for strengthening collaboration between civil authorities and security agencies.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that the retired general would help advance the administration’s security agenda.

“He also urged him to deploy his wealth of experience, professionalism, and strategic insight in advancing national security objectives and supporting the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” the statement said.
