Nollywood star Genevieve Nnaji is making a return to the screen after an eight-year break, landing a major role in the upcoming BBC Studios drama series Wahala.

Her last film appearance was in Lionheart (2018), a landmark production that became the first Nigerian film acquired by Netflix, marking a turning point for Nollywood’s global visibility.

The new project, a six-part drama adapted from the novel Wahala by BAFTA-nominated screenwriter Theresa Ikoko, will air on BBC One and stream on BBC iPlayer.

The series features an international ensemble cast, including Adelayo Adedayo, Deborah Ayorinde, Cush Jumbo, and Susan Wokoma, and explores the lives of four Nigerian-British women in London whose relationships unravel amid hidden secrets, emotional strain, and long-buried truths.

Reacting to her involvement, Nnaji expressed excitement about joining the production and working with the creative team.

“I’m very happy to be joining Wahala and to be working with such a brilliant team. It’s an intriguing story, and I’m excited to be a part of it,” she said.
