MainPower Electricity Distribution Company Limited has appealed to residents of Emene and surrounding communities in Enugu State to remain patient amid the prolonged power outage caused by damaged transmission lines and related technical faults.
The Managing Director of the company, Ernest Mupwaya, made the appeal on Wednesday during an inspection of ongoing repair works on the Emene Industrial Lines 1 and 2 towers around the Naira Triangle axis in Emene.
He was accompanied by the company’s Chief Technical Officer, Engr. Chimezie Chukwu; Head of Operations, Engr. Ikenna Mbamablu; and the Team Lead of the Quick Response Team, Abakpa District, Engr. Bethrand Amu.
Mupwaya expressed regret over the hardship caused by the outage, particularly to customers in Emenite, Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Alo Aluminium, Akpuoga, Nkwubor, Ugwuomu, Sunrise Estate, Conraws Estate, Rehab Road, and Adoration areas.
According to him, engineers are currently carrying out reconductoring of the damaged lines and reinforcement of affected towers to restore supply safely and permanently.
He explained that the delay in restoring electricity was caused by additional technical defects discovered during the repair process.
The Managing Director noted that the affected towers required reinforcement to prevent possible collapse and protect residents living around the installations.
“We regret the inconveniences experienced by our customers and assure them that the ongoing work is receiving urgent attention and will soon be completed,” he said.
Mupwaya clarified that the main fault remained on the Emene Industrial Lines 1 and 2, while outages affecting the Trans Ekulu, Thinkers Corner, Ituku-Ozalla, and Ugwogo 33KV lines were intentionally initiated to ensure the safety of engineers working on the repairs.
The company recalled that heavy rainfall and windstorm on Sunday, May 3, 2026, caused wire cuts on the Emene Industrial Lines 1 and 2, damaging critical towers and disrupting power supply across several parts of Enugu linked to the Transmission Company of Nigeria’s New Haven Station switch yard.
