Fresh cracks have emerged within the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after the party’s House of Representatives screening committee reportedly disqualified three serving lawmakers believed to be loyal to suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara ahead of the party’s primaries.

The development comes as the committee cleared several allies of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, including Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, to participate in the exercise scheduled for Saturday.

Among those reportedly disqualified from contesting the APC House of Representatives primaries are Hon. Anderson Alisson, Hon. Abiante Awaji Imombek, and Hon. Boma Goodhead.

The affected lawmakers were said to be among federal legislators who openly backed Governor Fubara during the prolonged political crisis in Rivers State. They were also reportedly among the lawmakers who defected alongside the governor to the APC.

In contrast, the screening committee cleared several politicians linked to the Wike political camp, including Hon. Hart Cyril, Hon. Blessing Amadi, Hon. Dumnamene Detor, Hon. Martin Amaewhule, Hon. Solomon Bob, Hon. Uche Felix Nwaeke, and Hon. Victor Chukwuemele Obuzor.

Amaewhule is expected to replace former PDP lawmaker, Hon. O.K. Chinda, who reportedly obtained the APC governorship nomination form.

Sources within the party also disclosed that other loyalists of the FCT Minister were cleared to replace the disqualified lawmakers ahead of the primaries.

Meanwhile, another federal lawmaker aligned with Governor Fubara, Hon. Boniface Sunday Emerengwa, is reportedly pursuing a Senate ticket, although the final list of cleared aspirants for the Senate primaries has yet to be released.

The latest development is expected to further deepen political tensions within the Rivers APC, as the battle for control of the party structure ahead of the 2027 elections intensifies.
