Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested a 30-year-old suspect, identified as Okechukwu Chinweko, popularly known as “Bullet,” over alleged involvement in abduction, rape, and unlawful possession of firearms in Anambra State.
The suspect was apprehended by police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, during a raid on a hideout in Umudike Community, Awka, in the early hours of May 16, 2026.
Confirming the development in a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Tochukwu Ikenga, said the operation followed credible intelligence received by the police.
Ikenga disclosed that the suspect had a tattoo inscription bearing the name “Bullet” boldly written on his arm.
According to the police spokesman, operatives recovered one locally fabricated Beretta pistol and eight rounds of 9mm live ammunition during the operation.
He stated that preliminary investigations linked the suspect to an incident that occurred on May 2, 2026, in which he allegedly abducted and raped a female victim before police operatives rescued her.
“Preliminary information reveals that the suspect was positively identified in connection with an incident that occurred on 2nd May 2026, where he allegedly abducted and raped a female victim before Police Operatives rescued her,” Ikenga said.
He added that the victim was found with varying degrees of injuries on her body, while the suspect fled the scene before his eventual arrest.
The police command reiterated its commitment to tackling violent crimes and ensuring that offenders are brought to justice.
“The Anambra State Police Command reiterates its commitment to ensuring the safety of residents and bringing perpetrators of crime to justice, no matter how long it takes,” the statement added.
Ikenga further disclosed that the suspect would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.
