Former Chief of Staff to the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, Mustapha Bala Dawaki, has defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) after losing his return ticket to contest in the 2027 elections through a consensus arrangement within the APC.

Dawaki, a former member of the House of Representatives who represented the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency of Kano State, reportedly left the ruling party barely a week after failing to secure its ticket.

His defection was confirmed on Monday by Saifullahi Hassan, media aide to a leading figure in the Kwankwasiyya political movement aligned with the NDC.

Hassan disclosed that the move was formalised at the Miller Rose residence of former Kano State Governor and NDC leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

“Leader [Kwankwaso] has today accepted the former Chief of Staff to the APC national Chairman, Mustapha Bala Dawaki (Mai Gidan Ruwa) to the NDC Kwankwasiyya,” Kwankwaso’s aide wrote on his verified Facebook page.

The development comes as the NDC continues internal consultations and consensus-building processes to determine candidates for various elective positions across the state.

However, it remains unclear whether Dawaki will be granted an automatic ticket to contest under his new party.
