Operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the Delta State Police Command have arrested two suspected drug dealers and recovered a large quantity of suspected illicit substances during a raid in Sapele Local Government Area of the state.
The operation, carried out in the early hours of May 22, followed what the police described as credible intelligence on the activities of suspected drug traffickers operating from a hideout in the Amukpe area of Sapele.
Confirming the development in a statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the operation led to the arrest of two suspects identified as Onyedikachi, 40, and Edna Karaki, 36, both residents of Amukpe.
“Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the VCRU on 22 May 2026 at about 0530hrs carried out a targeted operation at a suspected drug dealers’ hideout in the Amukpe area of Sapele,” the statement read.
According to the police, a search conducted during the raid resulted in the recovery of large quantities of substances suspected to be illicit and controlled drugs.
Items recovered include Tramadol, CSC Codeine, Molly, Swinol, Vagadine, Red Boy, Zaza, Taker, and other substances believed to be harmful drugs.
Preliminary investigations, according to the command, revealed that the suspects were allegedly involved in the sale and distribution of the recovered substances.
“During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to dealing in controlled drugs,” Edafe stated.
The police spokesperson added that the suspects remain in custody while investigations continue to uncover the full scope of the operation and identify other members of the alleged network.
Commending the operatives for the successful operation, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and other criminal activities across the state.
“Illicit drug abuse fuels crimes such as cultism, armed robbery, and other violent offences,” the commissioner stated.
He assured residents that the command would continue intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and reducing drug-related crimes in the state.
The police also urged members of the public to support security agencies with credible information on suspicious activities and criminal elements within their communities.
