Caleb Ani

The desperate and faceless article making rounds against the Executive Chairman of Enugu South Local Government Area, Hon. Caleb Onyema Ani, has finally exposed itself for what it truly is — a poorly scripted propaganda piece written by bitter political jobbers terrified by the massive grassroots acceptance and performance-driven leadership of the council chairman.

For the avoidance of doubt, Hon. Caleb Ani’s emergence as the APC chairmanship candidate for Enugu South was neither an imposition nor a product of political manipulation. It was the direct outcome of the overwhelming endorsement freely given to him by the people of Enugu South during their visit to the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, in February 2026, where stakeholders, party faithful, youths, women, and community leaders openly demanded his return for a second term based on performance.

That position was publicly reaffirmed on Tuesday by the Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Chidiebere Onyia, during the APC primary collation exercise held at the Enugu South Local Government headquarters.

Prof. Onyia categorically stated that Governor Mbah listened to the voice of the grassroots before supporting Caleb Ani’s continuity, stressing that the chairman earned another opportunity because of his visible achievements and commitment to development.

What greater proof of popularity can exist than the organic crowd that flooded the Enugu South Local Government headquarters during the collation exercise?

The massive turnout of party faithful, women groups, youths, stakeholders, and supporters from the 13 wards of Enugu South completely demolished the laughable claim of “imposition” being pushed by anonymous writers hiding behind cheap blackmail.

If Caleb Ani was imposed, who mobilised the thousands of jubilant supporters that shut down the council headquarters in celebration? Who filled the venue with chants of solidarity and endorsement? Certainly not political ghosts and frustrated propagandists operating from the shadows.

More embarrassing for the sponsors of the malicious article is the calibre of dignitaries and stakeholders who attended and openly endorsed the process. Present at the event were:

  • Hon. Chimaobi Atu
  • Hon. Okey Ogbodo
  • Hon. Obiajulu Ugwu
  • Rt. Hon. Offor Chukwuegbo
  • Hon. Sam Ngene
  • Several women organisations and youth groups across Enugu South

Their presence alone completely reduced the fictitious publication to political comedy.

The truth remains that Hon. Caleb Ani earned his second-term ticket through performance, visibility, accessibility, and people-oriented leadership — not through propaganda or backdoor politics.

Under his administration, Enugu South has witnessed aggressive infrastructural development, strategic road construction projects, massive human empowerment programmes, improved security coordination, educational support for indigent students, and the facelift of the state secretariat environment, among several other interventions that directly impacted ordinary residents.

For the first time in years, many communities in Enugu South began to feel the practical impact of governance at the grassroots level.

It is therefore unsurprising that the people overwhelmingly rallied behind his continuity.

Those pushing the false narrative of “godfatherism” and “imposition” are clearly individuals frustrated by their inability to gain political relevance through democratic means. Having failed to secure public support, they have now resorted to anonymous articles, recycled lies, and emotional blackmail in a failed attempt to discredit a man whose performance has already spoken louder than propaganda.

No amount of faceless publications can erase the political reality in Enugu South: Caleb Ani enjoys massive grassroots acceptance because the people have seen tangible results.

The APC primary was not won in newspaper columns or social media propaganda. It was won in the hearts of the people and confirmed at the ballot by party members across the 13 wards of Enugu South.

The sponsors of the malicious article must understand that politics has moved beyond bitterness, entitlement, and sponsored falsehood. The people of Enugu South have spoken clearly — and they spoke loudly in favour of continuity, development, and purposeful leadership under Hon. Caleb Ani.
