Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide on Wednesday, May 27, 2028, formally received the report of the Igbo Charter of Strategic Engagement for National Development at its National Secretariat in Enugu, marking a significant step in ongoing efforts to redefine Igbo participation in national development discourse.
The report, compiled by a high-level committee chaired by Professor Kingsley Moghalu, was presented to the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Senator Azuta Mbata, during an official session of the organisation’s Global Executive Council (GEC).
Other members of the committee present at the presentation included Igwe Ambassador Lawrence Agubuzo, who served as First Deputy Chairman, and Chief Enyinnaya Onokala, the committee’s Secretary.
Presenting the report, Moghalu described the assignment as a historic undertaking, noting that it reflects a structured articulation of the Igbo worldview within the broader Nigerian national context.
“The assignment is historic and represents a deliberate effort to clearly define the place of Ndigbo in the Nigerian project,” Moghalu said.
He further revealed that the report contains a special compendium titled “Igbo Builders,” which documents the contributions of 125 late distinguished Igbo personalities across various fields whose efforts significantly advanced both Igbo development and national progress.
Moghalu also commended members of the committee for their dedication and intellectual commitment throughout the assignment, describing the process as rigorous and collaborative.
In his response, Senator Mbata praised the committee for what he called an outstanding, patriotic and visionary contribution to Igbo unity and national engagement.
“We commend the committee for this outstanding and visionary effort,” Mbata said. “The recommendations contained in this report will receive due attention and will significantly contribute to the advancement of Ndigbo and national development.”
He added that the report which has been studied and adopted is part of Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s commitment to constructive engagement and strategic repositioning of the Igbo nation within Nigeria.
Mbata also expressed gratitude to the committee on behalf of the organisation and the wider Igbo community.
