The Imo State chapter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been thrown into controversy following allegations of financial misconduct in its primary elections, with public policy expert, Sam Amadi, accusing party officials of collecting money from aspirants in exchange for tickets.
Amadi raised the alarm in a post shared on his X account, where he said several aspirants participating in the National Democratic Congress primaries in Imo State had lodged complaints alleging that party officials demanded and received payments without delivering tickets.
“Many aspirants for @NigeriaNDCHQ primaries for offices in Imo State have been meeting me and complaining that some officials collected money from them for ticket without delivering,” he wrote.
He called on affected aspirants who allegedly made payments outside officially declared party fees to reach out to him, pledging to assist in recovering their funds.
“Please if you are one of those who paid money to anyone apart from officially declared fees contact me and let me recover your money,” Amadi stated.
Describing the alleged practice as fraudulent, Amadi insisted that internal accountability within the party must be enforced, warning that such conduct undermines the integrity of the political process.
“There must be accountability for fraud. This is beyond politics. If you collected money for a transaction, then perform or refund,” he said.
He further stressed that political processes must not be commercialised, reiterating his demand for transparency and responsibility within the party’s nomination process.
“There must be accountability,” he added.
