The Enugu State Police Command has dismissed as false and misleading a viral social media report alleging that armed herdsmen attacked a school in Ezeagu Local Government Area of the state.

The Command described the claim as completely unfounded, stressing that no such incident occurred in any school within Ezeagu or anywhere else in Enugu State.

In a statement issued on June 9, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said swift security checks, intelligence gathering, operational deployment, and discreet investigations were immediately carried out following the emergence of the report.

According to him, all findings confirmed that the story was entirely fabricated.

“The Enugu State Police Command is categorically debunking a false and misleading report currently circulating on social media alleging that armed herdsmen attacked a school in Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State,” the statement read.

“The Command states without ambiguity that no such attack occurred in any school within the Local Government Area or any other part of Enugu State.”

The Police further expressed concern over what it described as a deliberate attempt to spread panic and misinformation capable of unsettling parents, teachers, schoolchildren, and the wider public.

It warned that efforts had already been intensified to trace and prosecute those behind the false report.

“The Command notes with concern the deliberate fabrication and circulation of such unfounded information, which is capable of inciting fear, creating unnecessary panic, and misleading members of the public,” it added.

Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, the Command said its Tactical and Intelligence Units had been ordered to intensify investigations to apprehend the perpetrators.

CP Giwa reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining peace and security across the state, especially in schools and vulnerable communities.

He urged residents to remain calm, disregard the false report, and continue their lawful activities without fear.

The Police also encouraged members of the public to report suspicious activities promptly through official channels, including emergency lines: 08032003702, 08086671202, 112, 09134666668, and 09134448093.

The Command reiterated that spreading false security alerts undermines public safety and warned that offenders will face the full weight of the law.
