The authorities in Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State have dismissed reports alleging that schoolchildren were kidnapped in Awha Ward on Tuesday, describing the claims as false, misleading and capable of creating unnecessary panic among residents.
In a public announcement issued on June 9, 2026, the Future Is Green Media Team reassured residents that no kidnapping incident or attempted abduction of schoolchildren occurred anywhere within the council area.
According to the statement, rumours circulating on social media and other platforms suggesting that criminals had targeted schoolchildren in Awha Ward were entirely unfounded.
“It has come to our notice that some disgruntled elements have been spreading rumours of insecurity and that school children were kidnapped today, Tuesday, June 9, 2026, in Awha Ward in Ezeagu Local Government Area,” the statement said.
“As a responsible government, we want you to note that the information is false and misleading.”
The council maintained that Ezeagu remains peaceful and secure, contrary to insinuations that the area was under threat from criminal elements.
The statement stressed: “No kidnapping incident or attempt to kidnap school children took place in our dear Local Government Area.”
It further added: “Ezeagu Local Government Area is safe and not under siege from criminal elements as alleged.”
While urging residents not to be alarmed by the rumours, the council encouraged citizens to continue with their normal daily activities, insisting that adequate security measures remain in place across the area.
“We encourage Ndi Ezeagu to continue to perform their lawful duties as the environment is safe and secured,” the statement noted.
The council also called on residents to support security agencies through the provision of timely and credible intelligence that could aid proactive responses to any security concerns.
“We enjoin Ndi Ezeagu to share credible intelligence information with the nearest security personnel around them for the purpose of proactive response,” it added.
Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the council assured residents that it would continue to prioritize the protection of lives and property across the local government area.
“We are committed in our responsibilities to protect the lives and property of Ndi Ezeagu,” the statement concluded.
