Enugu Police Commissioner CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa,

The Enugu State Police Command has reiterated a total ban on armed escorts and unauthorized security operatives at polling units ahead of the Enugu North Senatorial District Bye-Election scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026.

The Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, made the announcement while restating the Command’s operational guidelines for a peaceful and credible election across the state.

According to him, only Police personnel and other security operatives officially deployed for election duties will be permitted within and around polling units, while armed operatives assigned for election security will operate from outer cordon positions, conduct patrols, and respond to incidents as necessary.

CP Giwa also reaffirmed the restriction of human and vehicular movement from 12:00 a.m. (midnight) to 6:00 p.m. on election day across the six affected Local Government Areas: Igbo-Etiti, Igbo Eze North, Igbo Eze South, Nsukka, Udenu, and Uzo-Uwani.

He clarified that the restriction does not apply to duly accredited electoral officials, observers, journalists, and persons on verified essential duties.

“Only Police personnel and other security operatives officially deployed for election duties are permitted at polling units,” CP Giwa stated, stressing strict enforcement of the directive.

The Commissioner warned political parties, candidates, supporters, and residents against any conduct capable of disrupting the electoral process, adding that violators would be dealt with in accordance with the law.

He further urged residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and to report any suspicious activities or electoral breaches to the nearest police station or security agencies.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, mnipr, mnisma, who signed the statement from the Command Headquarters in Enugu, said the measures are part of efforts to ensure a peaceful and orderly conduct of the poll.
