The Anambra State Police Command has intensified its offensive against crime, arresting three suspects linked to armed robbery, drug peddling and cult-related activities in separate operations across the state.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on June 20, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who said the arrests were carried out by operatives of the Command’s Rapid Response Unit, also known as the VCRU.

According to the statement, operatives on patrol along the Igbariam–Achalla Road on June 19 intercepted and arrested two suspects identified as Williams Ndifon and David Missang, both aged 27.

The suspects were reportedly riding on a Daylong motorcycle when they were stopped and searched by the police.

Items recovered from them included a locally made Beretta pistol, one live round of ammunition, six GSM phones, two power banks, a sledgehammer, a chisel believed to be used for breaking into properties, quantities of substances suspected to be Cannabis Sativa, and a black polo shirt bearing the inscription “Nigeria Army Barracks Youths Foundation (NABYF).”

In a separate operation on the same day, police operatives acting on intelligence arrested a 21-year-old suspect, Oluchukwu Onyekwe, at Agukwu Nri in Anaocha Local Government Area.

Police said the suspect was found in possession of substantial quantities of dried weeds suspected to be Cannabis Sativa.

The Command further revealed that preliminary investigations linked Onyekwe to cult-related activities in the area.

“The suspect remains in custody while further interrogation and investigations continue,” the statement said.

The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against criminal elements and urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with useful information.

“The Command urges residents to continue supporting the Police with credible and timely information to enhance public safety and security,” SP Ikenga stated.

He added that investigations are ongoing as the Command works to uncover possible criminal networks connected to the suspects and recovered exhibits.
