Omoyele Sowore

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the hearing of his application to restore his bail.

Justice Mohammed Umar issued the order on Monday, directing that Sowore remain in custody until June 24, when the court is scheduled to hear his application seeking to set aside the earlier order revoking his bail.

The court had, on June 16, withdrawn the activist’s bail after he allegedly failed to appear for trial in a case bordering on the alleged insult of President Bola Tinubu.

In a ruling on an oral application by counsel to the Department of State Services (DSS), Akinkolu Kehinde (SAN), Justice Umar also issued a bench warrant for Sowore’s arrest.

The DSS is prosecuting the #RevolutionNow convener over allegations that he made false claims against President Tinubu by referring to him as “a criminal” in posts published on his X and Facebook accounts in 2025.

Reacting to the development, Sowore took to his social media platforms, assuring his supporters that his detention would not weaken his resolve.

He declared that he would “remain resolute in the pursuit of justice.”

The matter has been adjourned until June 24 for the hearing of his application challenging the revocation of his bail.
