Former Abia State Governor and Senator, Orji Uzor Kalu, has said that sustained investment in security remains the most critical pathway to achieving a stronger and more inclusive Nigerian economy.
Kalu made the assertion in a statement signed by Abubakar Bawa, Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Sokoto, during his visit to Sokoto State, where he commissioned 10 road projects executed by the administration of Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto in the Arkilla New Layout.
He warned that rising insecurity continues to undermine Nigeria’s economic potential, stressing the need for urgent and decisive action to stabilise the country.
According to him, economic expansion remains essential to national prosperity and improved living standards.
“What this country needs is economic expansion so that there can be money, prosperity and goodness for Nigerians. This is what the country needs,” Kalu said.
The former governor commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts at strengthening the economy, particularly at the macroeconomic level.
“Things might look difficult today. Yes, as you can see, I am an industrialist. The macroeconomy is doing well, but the microeconomy is not doing well. I told the President this,” he said.
Kalu noted that although macroeconomic indicators appear positive, many citizens are yet to feel the impact due to insecurity and structural constraints affecting local economic activity.

He expressed optimism that improved security investment would ensure that the benefits of economic reforms reach ordinary Nigerians.
The senator also reaffirmed his commitment to national unity.
“Nigeria is one, and I will continue to pray and plead for the unity of this country until I die,” he said.
Kalu further thanked Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto for inviting him to commission the road projects, describing them as a significant contribution to infrastructure development in the state.
