A husband and wife accused of abusing a 10-year-old boy in Isiowulu, Anambra State, have been remanded in a correctional facility following their arraignment in court, the Anambra State Police Command has confirmed.

The suspects, identified as 40-year-old Chukwudi Chukwuyere and his wife, Chisom Chukwuyere, 30, were ordered remanded after police concluded preliminary investigations into the case, which sparked widespread outrage after videos and reports of the victim surfaced on social media.

Confirming the development in a statement issued on June 25, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the Command had successfully secured the remand of the couple pending further legal proceedings.

According to the police, the case attracted significant public attention and prompted swift action that led to the rescue of the child and the arrest of the suspects.

The Command commended residents of the community for their vigilance and cooperation throughout the investigation.

“The Anambra State Police Command has secured the remand of Mr Chukwudi Chukwuyere ‘M’ aged 40 years and Mrs Chisom Chukwuyere ‘F’ aged 30 years in a Correctional Centre over their alleged involvement in the abuse of a 10-year-old boy in Isiowulu, Anambra State,” Ikenga stated.

He added that the suspects were arraigned after investigators completed preliminary findings into the matter.

“The suspects were arraigned in court following the conclusion of preliminary investigations into the Case, which attracted public concern after reports and video footage of the victim surfaced on social media.”

The police spokesperson further praised members of the public whose timely intervention helped save the child from further harm.

“To this end, the Anambra State Police Command commends the residents of the area for their vigilance, cooperation, and timely provision of information that led to the rescue of the child and ensured that he received the necessary medical attention, while the suspects were apprehended,” he said.

Ikenga reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting vulnerable persons and ensuring justice is served.

“Anambra State Police Command remains committed to promoting justice and the protection of human rights in line with the vision of the Inspector General of Police.”

He added that the Command would continue to update the public on further developments in the case as legal proceedings progress.
