Anambra Police Command

The Anambra State Police Command has arraigned 12 suspects before the Gender Magistrate Court sitting in Awka over alleged offences ranging from rape, defilement and child abuse to abduction and assault, reaffirming its commitment to protecting women and children from all forms of violence.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, July 9, 2026, noting that the suspects were arraigned on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, in separate cases involving minors and other vulnerable victims.

According to Ikenga, Chima Onyeanuna, Emeka Muo and Okafor Chibundu were arraigned over the alleged abduction and defilement of a 14-year-old girl in Nanka.

He said police operatives also arraigned Chukwudi Ugwu Jeremiah in a separate case for the alleged defilement of an 11-year-old girl along Slaughter Lane in Awka.

Ikenga further disclosed that Ndubuisi Ikechebelu, Udogu Kennedy, Nnamah Christopher and Chinecherem Emmanuel were brought before the court over allegations of raping a 19-year-old woman on different occasions, resulting in her pregnancy.

He added that Charity Anakwe and Chidiere Anakwe were also arraigned over the alleged assault of their 12-year-old house help.

According to the police spokesperson, the court equally heard the case against Chukwudi Joseph, who was arraigned for allegedly assaulting a 12-year-old girl in Ozubulu, while Chibuike Agu was docked for the alleged defilement of a 13-year-old girl in Fegge.

Ikenga said the court ordered that all 12 suspects be remanded at the Awka Correctional Centre pending the hearing of their respective cases.

Reaffirming the command’s resolve to combat crimes against women and children, Ikenga said the Anambra State Police Command would continue to pursue justice for victims of sexual and gender-based violence.

“The Command reiterates its zero tolerance for sexual and gender-based violence, child abuse, and all forms of violence against vulnerable persons.

“The Command also assures the public that the Police will continue to diligently investigate such cases and ensure that offenders are brought to justice in accordance with the law,” Ikenga stated.
