The Abia State Government has welcomed the rescue of the schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oyo State, describing their safe return as a moment of immense relief and gratitude for Nigerians.

In a statement issued on Sunday, July 12, 2026, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Abia State, Ctz. Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, said the state joined millions of Nigerians in celebrating the successful rescue of the victims after weeks in captivity.

The government expressed gratitude to God for preserving the lives of the pupils and teachers throughout their ordeal and prayed for their full recovery.

“We thank God Almighty for preserving their lives and seeing them through this traumatic ordeal. We pray for their complete healing, emotional recovery, and a smooth return to learning,” Ukoha stated.

The Abia Government also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing the leadership that culminated in the successful operation, while applauding the efforts of the nation’s security agencies.

“On behalf of the Government and people of Abia State, we extend our profound appreciation to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his leadership and commitment in securing the release of the victims,” he said.

Ukoha further praised the gallantry, professionalism and coordinated efforts of the military and other security agencies, noting that their intelligence-driven operation ensured the victims were rescued alive.

“We also commend the gallantry and professionalism of our security agencies for ensuring the release of the victims. Their coordinated efforts, intelligence, and resolve ensured that these children and teachers were brought home alive,” the statement added.

The Abia State Government equally expressed solidarity with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, his administration and the people of the state, while sympathising with the families affected by the abduction.

“We stand in full solidarity with the Executive Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, the Government, and the good people of Oyo State during this period. To the parents and guardians, we share in your joy and we pray that such a painful experience never repeats itself in our land,” Ukoha stated.
