Award-winning Nollywood actress and philanthropist Rechael Okonkwo, popularly known as Nkoli Nwa Nsukka, has officially launched her debut memoir, Odogwu Girl: From Dreams to Reality, describing the book as an inspiring account of resilience, faith and determination designed to encourage women and young people to pursue their dreams despite life’s challenges.
The colourful book launch, held in Lagos on Sunday, marked a significant milestone in the actress’s career as she expanded her influence beyond the screen into literature.
Published by Inemesit Hanson, the memoir chronicles Rechael’s rise from humble beginnings to becoming one of Nollywood’s most celebrated actresses, while offering readers an intimate look into the struggles, setbacks and defining moments that shaped her journey.
Speaking at the launch, the actress said the book was born out of a desire to inspire others through her personal experiences.
“I feel proud of myself. I’m glad I’ve come this far, and I’m happy to have written something that will inspire, encourage and motivate women to keep believing in themselves, no matter what they are going through or where they come from. I want everyone who reads this book to leave feeling encouraged and empowered,” she said.
According to her, Odogwu Girl reflects years of perseverance, resilience and unwavering faith, reminding readers—especially women—that their background or present circumstances do not determine their future.
Rechael, who is widely recognised for her humanitarian initiatives and programmes supporting women and young people, said the publication aligns with her long-standing commitment to mentorship, education and personal development.
She explained that many of the lessons contained in the book are drawn directly from experiences that shaped both her acting career and her outreach efforts.
“This book is beyond acting. It contains my experiences, my insights about life and, most importantly, encouragement. Women are emotional by nature, and when life doesn’t go as planned, many lose hope. I want this book to remind them that the future is still bright and that they can rise above every setback.”
Reflecting on what inspired her to write the memoir, the actress said her own life story became the message she felt compelled to share.
She revealed that losing her father at the age of 13 forced her into a position of responsibility as the first child caring for five younger siblings, an experience that strengthened her resolve to succeed despite enormous hardships.
“Life has never been easy for me, but one thing has always stood out; my decision to keep going and to thrive no matter what comes my way. My life is proof that a woman can overcome challenges, break stereotypes and still succeed.”
Beyond documenting her rise in Nollywood, Odogwu Girl: From Dreams to Reality explores themes of purpose, self-belief, resilience and determination, encouraging readers to remain focused even in the face of disappointment.
Rechael described the book as more than a memoir, expressing hope that it would evolve into a movement that inspires women to embrace what she called the “Odogwu spirit”—a mindset rooted in courage, resilience and the determination to overcome adversity.
Guests at the launch, including veterans of the literary and entertainment industries, hailed the publication as another landmark achievement for the actress, noting the growing trend of Nigerian entertainers documenting their personal journeys to inspire future generations.
The event attracted several notable personalities, including actress and filmmaker Benita Onyiuke Ogbonna, actress Princess Chineke (Dr. Princess), comedian Nwa Jesus, actress Dr. Matilda, actor Nickson Nwankwo, actress Nkechi Nnaji, actress Judith Nwankwo, actress Precious Ezeugo, actress Mary Tophan, actor Sochima Ezeoke, actress Chidimma Ugwu, author and producer Nani Boy, and content creator It’s Bobby, alongside family members, friends, colleagues and admirers.
With the launch of Odogwu Girl: From Dreams to Reality, Rechael Okonkwo adds author to her growing list of accomplishments, offering readers a compelling story of resilience, hope and the power of believing in one’s dreams.
