A pastor of the Power in the Word of God for the World Ministry has been found dead inside his church in Oron Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, with police yet to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The cleric’s lifeless body was discovered on Thursday, July 23, at the church located along Etim Inyang Street in Oron, throwing the community into shock and sparking widespread speculation over the cause of his death.
The incident has generated intense public interest, with residents expressing concern while unverified claims continue to circulate on social media about what may have happened.
Some residents speculated that the pastor may have died by suicide. However, there has been no official confirmation from the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, and authorities have not established the cause of death.
Videos circulating online showed individuals believed to be members of the church carrying the pastor’s body out of the church premises.
Another video seen online showed the body, wrapped in cloth, being transported in a police pickup van belonging to the Oron Area Command.
As of the time of filing this report, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the incident or confirm the cause of the pastor’s death.
Efforts to obtain comments from the command were unsuccessful, as the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, neither answered telephone calls nor responded to text messages seeking clarification.
Police are expected to carry out a full investigation, including a forensic examination where necessary, to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the pastor’s death.
Until the outcome of the investigation is made public, the cause of death remains unknown, and authorities have urged against speculation.
