The Anambra State Police Command has dismissed allegations circulating on social media that some of its senior officers benefit from extortion allegedly perpetrated by police personnel at the Onitsha Bridge Head, insisting that such claims do not reflect the values and operational standards of the Nigeria Police Force.
In a statement issued on Saturday, July 25, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to professionalism, accountability and ethical policing, stressing that any officer found engaging in extortion would be held personally responsible for such misconduct.
Ikenga said the Command takes allegations of corruption seriously but maintained that the actions of individual officers should not be construed as the official position or policy of the Command.
“Such allegations do not reflect the values, standards, and operational principles of the Nigeria Police Force. The pride and fulfilment of every senior and supervising officer lies in leading teams that operate professionally, lawfully and with integrity, not otherwise,” he said.
The police spokesperson further emphasised that every officer bears personal responsibility for adhering to the ethics of the policing profession.
“The conduct of every Police Officer is a reflection of his or her personal character and commitment to the ethics of the profession. Accordingly, any act of unprofessionalism, misconduct, or extortion by an officer remains the responsibility of the individual concerned and does not represent the policy or directives of the Command or its leadership,” Ikenga stated.
He reiterated that the Anambra State Police Command maintains a zero-tolerance policy against corruption, extortion and other unethical practices, assuring residents that every credible complaint would be thoroughly investigated.
According to him, any officer found culpable after due investigation would face appropriate disciplinary action in line with the laws and regulations governing the Nigeria Police Force.
The Command also urged members of the public to support its accountability efforts by reporting specific cases of misconduct with verifiable details such as the date, time, location, vehicle registration number and the identity of the patrol team where available.

Ikenga added that such information would enhance the Command’s monitoring mechanisms and disciplinary processes.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to transparent, accountable and people-oriented policing, while expressing appreciation to Ndi Anambra for their continued cooperation and constructive feedback in strengthening public trust and improving service delivery.
