Former Governor of Abia State and Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has intensified efforts to deepen Nigeria’s aviation sector through strategic international partnerships following a high-level meeting with senior executives of Etihad Airways.
The meeting, led by Etihad Airways’ Senior Vice President for Aeropolitical, International and Government Affairs, Captain Khalid Humaid Al Ali, focused on expanding aviation cooperation between Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates, strengthening bilateral relations, and attracting investments capable of accelerating the growth of Nigeria’s aviation industry.
Among those present at the meeting were the Senator’s Chief of Staff, High Chief Barr. Emeka Nwala; the Federal Character Commissioner representing Enugu State, Hon. Peter Ogbonna Eze; the Senator’s Personal Assistant, Mrs. Ugochi Okoroafor; Alhaji Aminu Shehu Harrison Ogu, and other members of the delegation.
Speaking after the meeting, Senator Kalu described the engagement as productive and strategically important, stressing that collaboration with globally recognised aviation operators remains essential to Nigeria’s ambition of becoming a leading investment destination and regional aviation hub.
He said the discussions centred on building mutually beneficial partnerships that would strengthen aviation ties between Nigeria and Etihad Airways while opening new frontiers for investment, economic growth and sectoral development.
“As Nigeria continues to position itself as a major hub for investment and international connectivity, engagements such as this remain vital in building mutually beneficial relationships with global industry leaders,” Kalu said.
The former Senate Chief Whip commended Captain Khalid Humaid Al Ali and the Etihad Airways delegation for what he described as a fruitful and forward-looking engagement, expressing confidence that the discussions would lay the foundation for stronger collaboration in advancing Nigeria’s aviation industry.
Kalu reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that attract foreign investment, improve aviation infrastructure and enhance Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global air transport industry.
He maintained that sustained partnerships with leading international airlines and investors are critical to unlocking the full potential of Nigeria’s aviation sector and driving long-term economic development.
The meeting forms part of ongoing efforts by the senator to foster stronger international partnerships capable of attracting investments into key sectors of the Nigerian economy, with aviation identified as one of the strategic drivers of economic growth and regional connectivity.
