Governor Peter Mbah has approved the recruitment of more than 6,500 teachers and support personnel to strengthen the workforce in Enugu State’s public primary and secondary schools, with a major focus on staffing the state’s 267 Smart Green Schools.
The recruitment, announced on Tuesday, is part of the administration’s drive to provide the skilled manpower required to sustain its Smart Green School initiative and improve the quality of education across the state.
In a statement, the Executive Chairman of the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB), Prof. Hyginus Okibe Banko, said the exercise covers academic, technical and administrative positions in public schools.
According to him, applicants for teaching positions must possess either a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, a Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in a relevant discipline with a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE), or a Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE) in the relevant subject areas.
He added that registration with, or evidence of ongoing registration with, the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) is compulsory for eligible candidates.
Banko further disclosed that vacancies are also available for OND and SSCE/WASSCE holders in relevant non-teaching positions.
He explained that applicants for Degree and HND positions must possess a valid National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Discharge or Exemption Certificate and demonstrate practical proficiency in the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools across all cadres.
The ENSUBEB chairman directed interested applicants to submit a formal application letter alongside a detailed curriculum vitae, copies of academic and professional certificates, a birth certificate or sworn declaration of age, and valid contact details.
According to the statement, hard-copy applications should be submitted to the Office of the Executive Chairman, Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB), Enugu, while electronic applications should be compiled into a single PDF file and sent to the Board’s official email address, [email protected].
Banko stated that the recruitment exercise would close on Friday, August 14, 2026, urging qualified candidates to submit their applications before the deadline.
The latest recruitment is expected to significantly boost staffing across the state’s expanding Smart Green School system, a flagship education initiative of the Mbah administration aimed at equipping learners with 21st-century knowledge and digital skills.
