Engr. Prince Wilfred Ifenjika Edeoga has been formally confirmed as the Chairman of the Nigeria Youth Congress (NYC), Enugu State Chapter, following the presentation of his letter of appointment by the National President of the Congress, Comrade Engr. Jethro Annum, at the organisation’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

The confirmation ceremony, witnessed by members of the National Executive Council and key stakeholders in Nigeria’s youth development sector, was described as another step towards strengthening merit-based leadership, inclusiveness and institutional growth within the Nigeria Youth Congress.

In his acceptance speech, Edeoga thanked the National President and members of the National Executive Council for the confidence reposed in him, describing the appointment as both an honour and a call to greater service.

He pledged to provide transparent, visionary and people-centred leadership that would strengthen the Congress and expand opportunities for young people across Enugu State.

“I express my profound gratitude to the National President and the National Executive Council for the confidence reposed in me. This appointment is both a privilege and a solemn responsibility, and I am committed to providing visionary, transparent, and people-centered leadership that will advance the mandate of the Congress in Enugu State,” he said.

Edeoga also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as the administration’s commitment to youth inclusion through the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He said the Federal Government’s policies on youth empowerment and national development had created fresh opportunities for young Nigerians, while also acknowledging the Minister of Youth Development for providing strategic direction aimed at repositioning youths as active partners in nation-building.

The newly confirmed chairman equally paid glowing tribute to Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubisi Mbah, whom he described as a transformational leader whose administration has created an enabling environment for development and youth advancement.

“Enugu State has become a beacon of good governance. Under the leadership of His Excellency Dr. Peter Mbah, our youths have witnessed a government that is responsive, innovative, and committed to the welfare of the people. It is this environment of progress that has made it possible for a son of Enugu to be found worthy of national assignment today,” he stated.

Edeoga further appealed to the national leadership of the Nigeria Youth Congress to provide stronger institutional support for the Enugu chapter, stressing that meaningful youth participation in governance remains essential to Nigeria’s development.

“The Nigerian youth must be given a true sense of belonging. We must be present in the corridors of power, in the chambers where decisions that affect our future are made. The Nigeria Youth Congress has a historic responsibility to drive this inclusion and to ensure that the voice of the youth is heard at the highest levels of government, including the Presidential Villa,” he said.

Unveiling his agenda for the Enugu chapter, the new chairman said his administration would prioritise leadership development, civic education, entrepreneurship, skills acquisition and stronger collaboration between government institutions and youth organisations.

He added that his team would work closely with government agencies, development partners, local government authorities and community stakeholders to implement programmes that would empower young people and prepare them for leadership roles at both the state and national levels.

Dedicating the appointment to the youths of Enugu State, Edeoga vowed to discharge his responsibilities with integrity, patriotism and diligence.

“This is not about me. It is about the future of our youths, the future of Enugu State, and the future of our great nation. I accept this responsibility with humility and with the resolve to deliver on the objectives of the Nigeria Youth Congress,” he concluded.

His confirmation comes at a time when youth participation in governance has gained increasing national attention, with stakeholders advocating greater inclusion of young Nigerians in leadership and decision-making processes. Supporters say the appointment reflects the Congress’ commitment to promoting merit, competence and purposeful leadership in advancing youth development across the country.
