A survivor of the deadly attack on Naridom community in Chawai Chiefdom, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, has recounted the horror of losing eight members of his family in a single night after suspected bandits invaded the village.
The survivor, Mr. Yunana Rana, described the attack as the darkest moment of his life, saying the assailants stormed the community in the early hours of Monday, firing indiscriminately before unleashing violence on residents.
Speaking to LEADERSHIP, Rana said the sound of gunfire jolted villagers from their sleep, forcing families to flee in panic as the attackers rampaged through the community.
“They came at night and started shooting sporadically into the air. Everyone woke up in confusion because we didn’t know where the gunshots were coming from. People were running in different directions, trying to save their lives,” he recalled.
According to him, the scale of the tragedy only became clear after the attackers left, when he discovered that eight of his relatives had been killed.
“I lost eight members of my family in one night. They killed my mother, my brothers, my niece and my nephews. One of my nephews was just two years old. It is a pain I cannot describe,” Rana said.
He further alleged that after killing his mother, the attackers removed her eyes, describing the discovery as one of the most traumatic experiences of his life.
Beyond the loss of lives, Rana said the attackers also set houses and food stores ablaze, leaving many families homeless and without means of survival.
The grieving resident appealed to the Federal Government and the Kaduna State Government to strengthen security in the area, warning that survivors now live in constant fear of another attack.
He also called on government agencies and humanitarian organisations to provide urgent relief for affected families, many of whom have lost loved ones, homes and livelihoods.
Rana further urged authorities to facilitate immediate medical care for those injured during the attack, noting that several victims remain in critical condition and require treatment in better-equipped hospitals.
The attack on Naridom community has sparked widespread outrage among residents and stakeholders, renewing calls for security agencies to intensify efforts to halt the recurring wave of violent attacks on vulnerable communities across Kaduna State.
