Meta has unveiled a fresh set of updates for WhatsApp group chats, rolling out new features aimed at making conversations more organised, improving collaboration and simplifying communication among millions of users worldwide.
The tech giant announced that the latest update introduces smarter polls, a new @all mention feature and an easier way to create new group chats from existing ones, as part of its continued efforts to enhance the messaging experience.
According to Meta, group chats remain one of WhatsApp’s most popular features, serving as a vital tool for families, friends, workplaces, schools and community groups to stay connected and coordinate activities.
Smarter polls for quicker decisions
Among the new features is an upgraded polling system that gives users greater flexibility when creating polls in group chats.
Meta said users can now set an expiry time for polls, allowing voting to close automatically once the deadline is reached.
Poll creators can also choose to hide voters’ identities, enabling members to cast their votes privately.
In addition, poll questions can now be edited within 15 minutes of creation, making it easier to correct errors or clarify questions.
The company said the improvements are designed to help groups make decisions faster on issues such as meeting schedules, event venues and other shared activities.
New @all mention feature
WhatsApp has also introduced the @all mention feature, allowing users to notify every member of a group with a single message instead of mentioning participants individually.
Meta said the feature is intended for urgent announcements and important updates, including office or school closures, event deadlines and last-minute changes to plans.
For groups with more than 32 members, only administrators will have access to the @all feature.
The company added that users will continue to control how they receive notifications and can disable @all alerts through their notification settings, while important messages will still appear in muted chats.
Easier way to create new groups
Another addition allows users to create a new group directly from an existing chat without manually adding members one after another.
According to Meta, the feature is designed to make it easier to organise events, coordinate logistics or continue discussions in separate conversations without overcrowding the original group.
Builds on previous improvements
The latest update builds on several group-chat enhancements introduced earlier this year, including message history for new members, member tags and event reminders.
Meta said the new features reflect its ongoing commitment to improving how people communicate and collaborate in WhatsApp groups.
The company also disclosed that WhatsApp now has more than 100 million users in the United States and over 3 billion users globally, reinforcing its position as one of the world’s largest messaging platforms.
