Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, has allegedly urged his supporters to kill members of the Accord Party ahead of the August 15 governorship election in the state.
Fadahunsi, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), made the remarks in Yoruba in a video shared on X on Tuesday by Afrobeat singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.
In the video, the senator allegedly authorised his supporters to attack members of the opposition party whenever they encountered them.
“From now on, whenever you see Accord members, kill them. I authorise you to kill them. They have wives and children too,” Fadahunsi said.
He further alleged that the election was a Federal Government election and declared that Accord supporters would not be allowed to vote, even if they possessed valid voter cards.
“This is a federal government election. On election day, even if they come with voter cards, we won’t allow them to vote,” he said.
Fadahunsi also warned against Accord Party activities in Ilesa, challenging those who heard of such activities to record his remarks and relay them to party members.
“So, we have come to tell you now, from now till the election day, if we see them, kill them,” he added.
The remarks come amid heightened concerns over political violence ahead of the Osun governorship election.
In May, gunmen reportedly killed Kolade Eluyera, son of the Accord Party women leader in Irewole Local Government Area of the state.
The concerns intensified in August after a coalition of civil society organisations classified 13 of Osun’s 30 local government areas as high-risk areas, citing reported killings, attacks, political abductions, shootings and violence around local government secretariats.
Fadahunsi’s reported comments have consequently raised fresh concerns over the safety of political parties, candidates, supporters and voters as the state approaches the August 15 election.
