The Anambra State Police Command has arrested seven suspects, including a 65-year-old man allegedly linked to a secessionist group and a 25-year-old woman suspected of involvement in illicit drug activities, during separate raids on criminal hideouts in the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, August 14, 2026, saying the operations were conducted in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and the Command’s intensified crackdown on violent crime, cultism and drug-related activities.
Ikenga said operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), acting on credible intelligence, arrested 65-year-old Ifeanyi Ogbuagbo at his residence in Umudioka on the evening of Thursday, August 13.
A search of Ogbuagbo’s residence reportedly led to the recovery of an Army uniform and expended ammunition shells concealed in a black polythene bag.
According to the police, preliminary information indicated that Ogbuagbo was allegedly linked to a criminal group agitating for self-government.
The suspect has been taken into custody while investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding the recovered items and his alleged activities.
In a separate operation the same evening, police operatives stormed a suspected criminal hideout in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area, following credible intelligence.
The raid resulted in the arrest of six suspects identified as Chisom Okafor, 25; Onyedika Moses, 36; Iruka Nwaonu, 30; Joseph Nwankwo, 36; Chukwujekwu Nwoso, 32; and Akanimo Orok, 40.
Police said a sizeable quantity of dried weeds suspected to be Cannabis sativa, alongside other substances suspected to be illicit drugs, was recovered during the operation.
The latest arrests form part of the Command’s ongoing raids on identified criminal hideouts and drug-selling locations across Anambra.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, said the Command would sustain intelligence-led operations, strategic patrols and coordinated raids to dismantle criminal networks and prevent criminals from establishing safe havens in the state.
He directed that the ongoing raids on criminal hideouts, drug-selling spots and other identified areas of criminal activity be intensified and sustained.
The Commissioner also reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to disrupting illicit drug activities and other threats to public safety across Anambra State.
