Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party has defeated the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, at the polling unit of former Osun State Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, in Okuku, Odo-Otin Local Government Area of the state.
The result, uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing (IReV) portal, showed Adeleke polling 125 votes to defeat Oyebamiji, who secured 85 votes at the former governor’s polling unit.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, came third with five votes.
The African Action Congress (AAC) polled two votes, while the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Young Progressive Party (YPP) and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) each recorded one vote.
Other parties, including the Action Alliance (AA), Action Democratic Party (ADP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Action Peoples Party (APP), Boot Party (BP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), recorded no votes.
The result sheet indicated that 228 voters were accredited, with 220 valid votes cast and eight rejected ballots.
The election was conducted at Court Hall I, Okuku, in Odo-Otin Local Government Area.
Adeleke’s victory at the polling unit is particularly significant because Oyinlola, who governed Osun State between 2003 and 2010, had endorsed Oyebamiji, the APC candidate, ahead of the election.
Oyinlola had publicly thrown his weight behind Oyebamiji in the contest against Adeleke, making the APC candidate’s defeat at the former governor’s polling unit a notable development in the election.
Despite Oyinlola’s reported endorsement, Adeleke secured a 40-vote margin over Oyebamiji at the polling unit.
The result underscores the early electoral strength of Adeleke’s Accord Party in an election in which the incumbent is seeking another term against Oyebamiji and other contenders.
